Sequel Gallery’s First Birthday Showcase
As we step into 2025, I’m excited to share that two of my artworks will be featured in Sequel's First Birthday group exhibition at Sequel Gallery. This group exhibition celebrates the gallery by bringing together a selection of artists who have contributed to Sequel Gallery’s successful first year.
Exploring the Artworks
‘In Your Eyes’, oil on canvas
This painting invites viewers to reimagine plant perception through the lens of spirituality and multidimensionality. A flowering rose unfurls its petals to reveal an open eye that gazes out from the canvas. Inspired by the writings of esoteric philosopher Rudolf Steiner, the painting challenges the traditional view of plants as passive beings, positioning them instead as dynamic and perceptive entities—living organs of the Earth where spirit resides energetically. Plant life has long been a recurring symbol in art, culture, and philosophy, representing themes ranging from the decorative to the political. In this work, I reinterpret these ideas to encourage a deeper connection with nature and the unseen energies that shape our world.
‘Lead Me to the Light’, ink, watercolour and gold leaf on paper
This framed drawing is part of a larger body of work exploring climate change through the lens of the philosophical theory of biophilia—which means an affiliation for life and life-like processes. At the heart of the composition is a young woman surrounded by symbols of transformation and resilience. A butterfly perched on her nose signifies change, while orchids—renowned for their adaptability—symbolise strength and regeneration. Gold-leaf rootlets encircle her neck, accompanied by confetti-like gold circles, both representing the life-giving forces of the natural world. The interplay of ink, watercolour, and gold leaf illuminates themes of hope and renewal in the face of environmental challenges.
